Smaller Trout Are Biting

Knowing that the wind was going to howl and the temps drop later in the week we headed out to our trout holes to see if the trout were starting to fire up.

Low and behold Nancy caught one before I got to cast. We seemed to be able to catch one at each stop on the first cast and then catch nothing.

But we did land 5 today.  All were spanked by a curly grub on a tourist rig or on the ol' trout trick.

All were 12"-13" but were very pretty coming out of the clear winter waters.

After reviewing my past records, we didn't get any trout until April, so it's cool to catch them in February!

Hunter came down and celebrated my birthday.

We again went out a couple of hours before low tide and had success again on the Zman Trick Trout worm in the Mood Ring color.

We also located another red fish hole as we put a keeper in the boat under a dock with rock pretty quickly into our trip.

We wanted to finish the day on low tide at the big red hole, so we ended up there just before the end of low tide.

Two bites produced two more big overslot reds fishing the worm super slow on the rocky bottom.

So, a total of three came aboard, and Hunter was kind enough to net all three for me.  What a birthday present!

Water Temp 55 Degrees.

A nice February day beckoned us out to wet our lines.

Since it is my birthday, I figured I would give myself a present and see if I could catch a good'un

Nancy hit the board first with this beautiful silvery trout caught on a tourist rig and a curly tail grub.

I missed, then slammed this nice overslept slob red on a Zman Trout Trick slowly crawling it on the bottom.  It was quite a battle, but Nancy performed excellent net and this bad boy got his picture taken before sliding back into his home waters.

We fished a little more and tried a couple of exploratory drops, but to no avail.

Headed back in to enjoy my birthday rum and coke!
