Last Day of Fall and They Are Tight To The Bottom

 12.22.20

Fished solo today from 11 to 2:45.  The weather was great with the temps nearing 60 degrees and decreasing winds as the day went on.  I haven’t been to Crow Creek for a few weeks so I decided to concentrate there.  The water temp is still in the 64-degree range.  The water is extremely clear.

Hit a couple of laydown trees with a jig with a hula grub with no success near the Keowee Town Ramp, then fished the rest of the day in the Crow Creek area from Little Crow back.

Fishing was slow but due to the low wind I could really work over the creek bottoms and ditch cuts very methodically.  Fishing mainly in water from 50’ to 65’ deep with a jig rig and drop shots I managed 7 spots with the five best measuring 80”.

I could mark fish but I don’t think I caught any that I could “see” on the graph, the fish that bit was in the cover at the very bottom of the structure mentioned.

The bite was so light I can’t even describe how I would know I was bit, other than “something feels different”.

The jig rig was tipped with a HulastickZ in The Deal color.  I did manage 2 on a drop shot.  One was on a morning dawn Roboworm.  The other was on a Megabass Hazedong shad.

No topwater action occurred.  The past few trips I have managed to catch fish on top, but not today.

The last drop of the day yielded an 18” spot.  And it was time to go!

Glide Bait Bassin'

6.2

I have been playing around with glide baits and catching and seeing large bass that this lure draws up.
I've been using a S Waver and a S Waver knock off.
The fish are either coming out of laydowns or around bridge pilings.
Man, the fish it pulls up is amazing!

This is the longest spotted bass I've caught on Keowee

This is the heaviest spotted bass I've ever caught on Keowee

Furloughed Jocassee Trip

5.13.20

Water high 60's

Hunter got furloughed and came down to fish and golf with me and Nancy.  Fishing was OK.  Not great.  Golf was good for him, horrible for me.

We headed to Jo for some quiet fishing time.

It started relatively slow but after lunch we started figuring out some things and the action picked up.

We started concentrating on sandy knobs in the mid lake and dragging the ned rig and the hulastick down the knob.

Hunter did real good with 3 spots coming to the boat and I did ok with a couple more. I threw the S waver a bunch but could only get one nice largemouth to come take a look but not take the bait.

Overall a nice day on the pond even if Hunter wasn't getting paid.

Jocassee, Slower, But Still A Good Day

5.7.20

Water temp 64
Air started out at 37 degrees, brrr.

Nancy and I headed back up to Jocassee.

A lot cooler than it has been up there but we figured they still may bite on a beautiful day.

While slower Nancy caught this nice largemouth on a copppetruese Ned Rig off a log in Howard Creek.

It was a pretty slow bite.  After lunch I picked up my knock off S Waver and started casting it.  The first fish that followed it was a monster largemouth.  Needless to say, I was hooked.

Kept casting it and finally got blasted by this nice spotted bass.

My first glide bait fish ever.

It continued to make a splash as many times big packs of nice spotted bass followed it back to the boat, but I couldn't entice them to eat.

Gonna have to figure out how to make that happen!
